It’s our birthday week!

On September 5, 2006, @Rochester made its debut to the URochester community, sharing a birthday with other notable names like Freddie Mercury, Bob Newhart, and Michael Keaton. As we celebrate 20 years, we’re taking a brief look back at the newsletter’s history with short quiz questions. Answer at least one question correctly and be entered to receive limited-edition @Rochester swag. We’ll share all answers next week, and winners will be notified later in the month.

Question #5: A numbers game

Picture this: You send an email to a friend—only instead of including a link, you accidentally paste a photo of yourself at a child’s Halloween party wearing cat ears and a resigned expression. Now, picture doing this to a distribution list for the region’s largest employer. (Editors’ note: true story!) Using Price is Right rules, approximately how many people receive @Rochester each day?

Hint: It’s probably more than you think. Submit your answer.

UR Stars spotlight

Kelsie Smith Hayduk, Senior Communications Specialist

Each week, we spotlight a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Kelsie Smith Hayduk, a senior communications specialist, was recognized for demonstrating accountability.

“Kelsie came into the office on a scheduled vacation day (a beautiful summer day) to give a presentation on the use of social media for career development to a group of PhD trainees. Another colleague was out of town that day, so could not be present, and Kelsie stepped up without hesitation. She is wholeheartedly committed to helping members of our School of Medicine & Dentistry community share their research and what makes URochester Medicine a great place to train on social media. She cares about the organization and its people, and lending her expertise to trainees helps raise the visibility and reputation of our institution. Thank you, Kelsie, for being such a terrific team player and for all your work to support our students and raise the profile of SMD.”
