For faculty and staff

Child Care Subsidy applications now open

Applications are being accepted through September 28 for the 2027 Child Care Subsidy. The program helps eligible faculty and staff offset child care expenses by providing awards of up to $3,600 per year, based on total household gross income, through the Dependent Care FSA. If you received the subsidy in 2026, you must reapply to receive it in 2027. Find more information and FAQs here, or contact  familycare@rochester.edu. You can also join the Office of Total Rewards on Tuesday, September 15, at noon for a webinar to get all of your questions answered.

Join the Well-Being for Life and Learning Training

Many faculty and staff navigate conversations about mental health and well-being without formal training. Well-Being for Life and Learning is a self-paced program that offers in-person, Zoom, and asynchronous online workshops. In-person sessions begin September 17. Developed by URochester content experts, the program provides guidance on recognizing students in distress, suicide prevention, trauma-informed conversations, moving through change, and more. Offered through Health Promotion within University Student Life.

UR Stars spotlight

Michael Seluanov, Research Technician

Each week, we spotlight a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Michael Seluanov, a research technician in the Department of Biology, was recognized for demonstrating accountability.

“Michael has been an instrumental part of our staff for many years, but his help this last year was particularly wonderful.  He helped our new teaching lab specialist to clean out and reorganize our teaching lab spaces, and he has been tremendously helpful to her in maintaining a high level of service for our students.  Recently, he spent many hours clearing out a room in our department that had been unusable for years. I had wanted to get that room cleared out for so long and could never get anyone to do it.  Michael attacked it with determination and was able to clear it out, clean it up, reorganize it, and make it a new functional space for our students and staff. The impact will be felt in our department for years to come. I am so grateful to Michael for getting in there with the dust and the cobwebs, and for tackling the junk that had been piled to the ceiling. Thank you, Michael, for all your work this last year.  I will tell the tale for years to come!”
