Public Resources
MERT offers immediate aid and basic life support for all students, faculty, and visitors on campus. In an emergency, call 585-275-3333 (University of Rochester Public Safety), which will dispatch to the on-duty MERT crew. MERT is on-shift every night while classes are in session, from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. MERT also accommodates, with two weeks’ notice, specific requested events as standby shifts.
Outside of medical response, MERT provides outreach to the greater Rochester community to inform and engage the population to learn about medicine. MERT sponsors events and lectures, often in association with other organizations on campus and offers outreach to regional public groups. Various MERT members volunteer and work with local ambulance agencies (including Monroe, AMR, Brighton, and Chili), public hospitals and clinics, New York medical agencies, including search-and-rescue (MSART), and participate in national medical conferences and symposia.
On this webpage, MERT supplies the public with medical resources as an extension of its core mission for the Rochester community. Listed is basic information on treatments for common medical conditions and emergencies, information on the University of Rochester Medical Amnesty Policy designed to ensure student well-being, links to neighboring Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agencies, and a regularly updated series of interesting and medically-relevant scientific papers. To learn more or to offer suggestions, please contact the MERT Director of Operations, Public Relations Officer, or Webmaster.
