Donald (D. A.) Henderson (MD), ’77 (HNR) received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bush in July for his role in eradicating smallpox.

Paul Fine (MD), ’65 (Res) (see ’57 undergraduate). . . . Lawrence Savett (MD) published his book, The Human Side of Medicine: Learning What It’s Like To Be a Patient and What It’s Like To Be a Physician. He was inspired to write the book after teaching a seminar course at Macalester College. He says the book emphasizes the importance of practicing the human side of medicine.

Walter Muth (MD) was hired as an opthalmologist at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in August.

1970

Charles Rodning (MD), a professor at the University of South Alabama’s medical school and vice chairman of the surgery department, received the Howard L. Holley Award from the Medical Association of the State of Alabama for his years of meritorious service. He also received the Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, which recognizes a teaching physician for compassion, enthusiasm, and leadership.

John Frazee (MD) was the lead vascular surgeon for the procedure that separated 1-year-old conjoined Guatamalan twins in Los Angeles last August./p>

Joseph Lowy (MD) married Lynn Feldman on June 23. He is a pulmonary and critical care specialist and partner at New York Pulmonary Associates, and she is an associate general counsel at New York University Hospitals Center.

Dolores Bacon (MD) writes that she is the director of medicine for the Brown Scholars Program in Primary Care at Columbia Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

1989

John Orsini (MD) writes that he is the new medical director of Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy Center. An assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine at the Medical Center, John lives in Mendon, N.Y., with his wife, Gae, and two sons, Leo, 4, and Reese, 2 1/2. He also notes that his wife was scheduled to compete in her first Ironman race in July. . . . Mark Vossler (MD) (see ’85 undergraduate).

1991

Laura Sim-Selley ’91 (PhD), assistant professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the College on Problems of Drug Dependence in Richmond, Va., was awarded the Joseph Cochin Young Investigator Award from the college. The award recognizes early career excellence in the science of drug addiction. Sim-Shelley was recognized for her research in how specific neurotransmitter receptors in the brain are affected by chronic exposure to drugs, particularly opiates and marijuana, and the behavioral changes that result.

Fabio Benedetti (Res) joined Millennium Pharmaceuticals of Cambridge, Mass., as vice president of global medical affairs.

Christopher D’Angelo (MD) married Anne Tiber on May 25. Both work at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he is a resident in internal medicine and she is a registered nurse.

2000

Christopher Ellis (MD) married Sarah Gutin on October 20, 2001. He is a resident physician at Vanderbilt University, and she is a freelance photographer. . . . Sunmi Kim (MD) married Richard Lin on June 16. She is an intern at New York Hospital Queens, and he is a fellow in gastroenterology at New York University Medical Center.

2002

Anne Olinger (Res) was planning to marry Patrick Billone in October. She was completing a fellowship at Monroe Community Hospital, and he is a meteorologist at WORK-TV Channel 13. . . . William Livingston (Res) joined the medical staff of Geneva General Hospital, specializing in emergency medicine. . . . Michelle Rindos (MD) married Jonathan Swanson (MD) May 4. Both are in residency programs at the University of Virginia Health Science Center in Charlottesville: she in the department of obstetrics and gynecology and he in pediatrics.
