Omega Addition Named for Former President
 |
DEDICATION: Sproull at the ceremony for the new addition. |
The newest addition to the Laboratory for Laser Energetics has been named in
honor of Robert L. Sproull, the seventh president of the University.
An 84,000-square-foot building, the Robert L. Sproull Center for Ultra High
Intensity Laser Research will house a newly renovated laser array, Omega EP
(Extended Performance), which is expected to extend the laboratory’s peak
capacity to more than 1,000 times that of the original facility built in the
1970s. The new array will be fully operational in 2007.
An internationally known physicist, Sproull was instrumental in securing funding
for the LLE during his administration, making the laboratory a leading center
for laser research.
