“My
mom was the force pushing me to go to college, but she didn’t
want me to come this far—she didn’t want me to go away
from the house. She didn’t know much about a university like
Rochester. She went to a community college to become a licensed
practical nurse, so she would have been more knowledgeable about
a community college—maybe a little bit about financial aid.
But as far as what it takes to fill out the application, the application
fee, why they need this paper or that information, she really was
unaware of what it entails to apply to a private school. And when
she saw how much Rochester cost, not understanding financial aid
and scholarships, she thought she had to pay for it. She said, ‘I
can’t help you.’ And I understood that.” |
