NIH Other Support Training Requirement – Important update

Dear colleagues,

As a follow-up to a communication sent on August 15, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) very recently clarified time-sensitive updates to its Other Support and research security training requirements.

NIH Stipulation: During the period of October 1, 2025 through January 24, 2026, all senior/key personnel who submit Other Support information to NIH (through Just-In-Time procedures, a Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR), or certain applications) must have completed research security training prior to submission. Note that completion of this training will also satisfy the new NIH requirement that senior/key personnel complete training related to the disclosure of Other Support effective October 1, 2025 (as well as the upcoming research security training requirement referenced below).

As a temporary compliance measure, senior/key personnel who have a RPPR due to NIH between October 1, 2025 through January 24, 2026 will be restricted from submitting the RPPR to NIH until they have completed research security training.

What You Need to Do: Researchers who expect to submit Other Support information (or be included as part of a submission) to NIH through a Just-In-Time request, an RPPR (or be included in an RPPR), or through certain applications between the above dates should complete research security training as soon as possible.

Research security training is accessible in MyPath by searching for “Research Security” in the search bar. The training will take approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes. More information on research security training can be found on the Office of the Vice President for Research website.

Effective January 25, 2026, senior/key personnel identified in an NIH application must certify to NIH that they have completed research security training within one year prior to the proposal submission. The University’s research security training available in MyPath will meet this requirement. More information regarding this requirement will be forthcoming.

Thank you,
