Engagement with Government Officials

If a Principal Investigator (PI) is involved in research bearing on national security, and through that research could be seen as a representative of the University, the PI must inform University administration (e.g. their Department Chair, Dean, Government & Community Relations, the Vice President for Research, etc.) prior to engagement with government officials, and should continue to communicate with University administration throughout any subsequent deliberations.
