Enterprise Backup - Policies and Procedures

Purpose:

The production turnover process provides for the enforcement of standards necessary to assure the accuracy and reliability of production applications, data integrity and a secure environment from unproven or non-certified development applications or products on all ITS platforms.

This standard encompasses all backups, applications, and system configurations that run in a production environment. They must follow a formal turnover process in order to assure compliance to standards, that the modifications are clearly defined and that compliance testing has occurred.

System backups must meet predetermined criteria including but not limited to:

  • Network and throughput speeds are acceptable
  • License keys have been acquired
  • Server class falls in an acceptable range/workgroup class

Responsibilities:

Production Support is responsible for reviewing and approving the completed System Downtime Request form or Enterprise Backup Action Form. Production Support is also responsible for, or assigns responsibility for, the actual implementation of any additions or changes to the NetBackup system. Any changes that have been made to the system that have not gone through the formal turnover process will be removed. All changes require a 24 hour notice period and will be implemented Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Exceptions and criticalities will be at the discretion of the Production Support group. Production Support staff will perform, or in special cases, approve all restores to the Enterprise Backup System.

The system administrators will be responsible for all test results, back-out plans, and the appropriate management approvals. Hardware, software, system configurations and environment changes will require that the System Change Request Form be submitted.

For client backup additions, changes and removals the Enterprise Backup Action Form must be submitted.
