George Eastman timeline

All through 2004, the University celebrated the 150th anniversary of George Eastman's birth on July 12th, 1854.

Through his many contributions to the University, industrialist and philanthropist George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak Company, helped transform a regionally known college into an internationally celebrated institution. The impact of his great generosity can be felt across the entire University community, including the Eastman School of Music, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Eastman Dental Center, the Memorial Art Gallery, and the River Campus.

Eastman's generosity was accompanied by a shrewd business sense, which lead him to realize that the quality of life and education available in the city of Rochester could only contribute to the success of his company. Throughout his lifetime, Eastman would give the majority of his charitable gifts — ultimately more than $50 million — to the University.
