Guidelines for filming or reporting on a University campus or location
The University of Rochester welcomes news organizations to its campuses, and University Communications is happy to assist media members who are seeking access to individuals and spaces. Rochester is, however, a private university and private property. Therefore, members of the media or film crews wishing to be on campus for the purposes of reporting or filming must receive permission from University Communications.
This policy does not cover access to campus for non-news photography or audio/video recording, including documentary filming, film projects, and commercials. These activities require additional permissions from University Communications, including location agreements and proof of insurance coverage acceptable to the University of Rochester.
Contact us to request permission
Due to the University’s close proximity to Frederick Douglass International Airport and FAA regulations, only University Communications is permitted to operate drones on the University of Rochester’s campuses.
