Mark Henderson named director of Transportation and Parking Management

Mark Henderson has been named director of the Department of Transportation and Parking Management, and will join the University on Feb. 1.  The appointment was announced by Bruce Bashwiner, associate vice president for University Facilities and Services.

Henderson comes to the University from the Brighton (N.Y.) Police Department where he served as police chief for the past six years.

As director, Henderson will lead the department responsible for overall parking and transportation management services on River Campus, the Medical Center and the Eastman School of Music. The department’s staff coordinates employee, student, visitor, and special events parking services, as well as the day and night shuttle services that run throughout the University’s campuses and into the community. The department also promotes several environmentally sustainable programs, including ridesharing, carpooling, Zipcars, and biking initiatives.

Throughout his 30 years with the Brighton Police Department, Henderson has served in several leadership positions—he was promoted from patrolman to sergeant in 1997, to lieutenant in 2003, named captain in 2007, and became chief in 2010.
