Save the dates: Move In Day and Wilson Day at the University of Rochester

As students return to the University of Rochester campus later this month, two scheduled events may be newsworthy:

Move In Day: Tuesday, Aug. 25 is Freshman Move In Day.  Be here as the Class of 2019 arrives on the River Campus starting at 9 a.m. Students and parents from all over the country will unpack their cars and set up their dorm rooms, all while being assisted by student volunteers and serenaded by various student musical groups.

Wilson Day: Thursday, Aug. 27 is Wilson Day. Celebrated each fall for more than 25 years, this is a day of community service for incoming University students. Nearly 1,300 freshmen will volunteer with 73 community organizations to perform tasks such as gardening and landscaping, setting up classrooms and interacting with senior residents.

Opening Ceremonies are from 1:30-2 p.m. at the Palestra at the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center. The freshmen will complete their community service between 2:30 and 6:30.

The list of community organizations involved includes Volunteers of America, the Seneca Park Zoo, Hill Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation, Foodlink, the Strong Museum of Play and the Mary Cariola Children’s Center and the Susan B. Anthony House.
