University of Rochester to host first Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit this weekend

WHAT: The first Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit, a national forum to discuss and develop solutions to problems facing the black community.

WHEN/WHERE: March 4-6 on the University of Rochester’s River Campus

MISSION: To establish an intercollegiate network of young black leaders passionate about social justice, collegiate accountability toward black students, and unity within the black community.

MAYOR SPEAKS: City of Rochester Major Lovely Warren will kick off the State of the Black Student panel at 11:40 a.m. at Hoyt Auditorium. The panel runs until 1 p.m.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS: Mitzi Miller, former editor-in-chief of Ebony magazine, will deliver her speech, Beyond All Limits, at 3:30 p.m. in Strong Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

INCOMING STUDENTS: Students will attend from the University of Rochester as well as SUNY Albany, University at Buffalo, Columbia University, Cornell University, the University of Connecticut, Harvard University, Ithaca College, the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University.

PARKING: Parking is free on the River Campus on Saturdays.
