1973
Maureen Henehan Famiglietti ’73RC writes, “Last spring I spent six weeks in Lesotho, a small country in sub-Saharan Africa, mentoring nurses and doctors at a 60-bed hospital. Like the rest of the African continent, Lesotho is devastated by HIV/AIDS. Antiretroviral drugs are only now reaching the remote areas of countries like this one. I taught the nurses about staging patients with HIV to determine when it is appropriate to begin medication and how to use the medications safely and effectively. It was a tremendous experience, and I plan to do more international work. I encourage my classmates to consider any opportunities that allow us to share our knowledge and expertise with those in need.”
