Student Advisory Board

To increase student involvement and input in our work, the Center established the Student Advisory Board (SAB) in Spring 2015 and comprises graduate and undergraduate students.

The Board focuses on local and national social justice advocacy interests and allows the Center to connect with individual students who want to give their input on the Center’s work on behalf of the UR student body. Board members focus on issues that are important to themselves and other students, including but not limited to, feminism, violence against women, women’s leadership, empowerment, LGBTQIA issues, marginalized groups on and off campus, and allyship.

The Student Advisory Board comprises up to 15 students from undergraduate and graduate programs across various class years and majors and meets once to twice a month during the semester.

Members will:

  • Plan social justice awareness-oriented events (one per semester) for the student body and the University of Rochester community; help at and attend planned events
  • Advise the Center on student engagement ideas and social justice issues important to students
  • Help the Center promote its events and initiatives
  • Work with University departments and student groups on co-sponsorships that work to bring awareness to and advocate for social justice and equity
  • Identify various issues they feel their peers would like to see the Center plan its events and initiatives around
  • Provide input on current initiatives run by the Center
