Training

The UR Student system has been designed with usability and utility in mind. Training will encompass process and technology changes.  Below is a list of training offerings by role as we approach out go live date. Training attendees for instructor led classes have been selected by their Project Champions for training.

Please note: Staff members designated for UR Student training, must complete the required learning modules and prerequisites prior to gaining access to the system.

Training will be offered in the following ways:

Prerequisite Video Training in MyPath – To attend an instructor led class you first must complete 5 system orientation videos that will provide background to the system’s configuration and enhance your in-person session. Please note, registration for the in-person class may be completed anytime as you are watching these prerequisite videos. Log into MyPath to launch and view the required UR Student Training videos regarding UR Student concepts and design considerations. These videos have 2.5 hours of content (in total) and knowledge checks to help assess your understanding of the basic concepts and design of the new system. These videos can be viewed as many times as needed.

UR Student Training videos (Prerequisite):
    1. UR Student Academic Foundation Design
    2. UR Student Programs of Study
    3. UR Student Academic Records
    4. UR Student Courses
    5. UR Student Course Sections

Instructor-Led Training – Classroom based training will include instruction and hands-on exercises for Staff users based on projected system role.  Documents and online guides will be provided to participants.  Training will be held in scheduled classes and will be required before a user will be assigned access to the system.  Instructor-led training is targeted for faculty and staff personnel. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Advising in UR Student (Graduate and Undergraduate) demonstration:
The UR Student project team will conduct a demonstration session at each school on Advisor tasks in UR Student. Dates will be published here when finalized. Communications to attend this demonstration will be sent by your Project Champion.  For those that are unable to attend, self paced materials will be provided at a later date.

Quick Reference Materials
– these self-service performance support materials are intended to provide assistance to users at the point of need, or to groups of users for which instructor-led training is not anticipated to be ideal.  Quick Reference Videos and Guides will be on specific topics that are role based.  This will provide easy visual reference on common tasks (registration, changing a major, changing status, etc.).  These types of materials are anticipated for faculty, staff as well as student users.

For a quick tour of the system, watch our UR Student System Navigation video and a brief overview of How students will use UR Student. More Training materials can be found on our production service site at https://tech.rochester.edu/services/urstudent/.

Support – as a part of the project’s deployment into production, support will be offered at select locations at River Campus for Faculty ans Staff.  This will provide point of need assistance for common user questions.  Students can work with their academic support network or Student IT help Desk for questions.

As the UR Student application software is provided as a service, ongoing changes are to be expected.  Training materials will be developed with this in mind, and are anticipated to minimize the use of specific screen shots, especially in more expensive medium such as video, to reduce the amount of continual update and maintenance for the materials as UR Student releases are provided.
