Graduation Ceremony FAQs & Details

How do I register?

Eligible members of the Class of 2026 must register here to participate in the University’s Commencement Weekend. On this registration form, graduates can sign up for both the University Commencement Ceremony and individual school graduation ceremonies, including the School of Nursing. Have your student ID (URID) number ready to confirm your eligibility for graduation— your URID can be found in UR Student under the summary tab on your profile page. Graduates are encouraged to register by Friday, May 8.

Where can I order regalia?

Students can order regalia by Friday, February 27, 2026, for in-store or Grad Fair pickup, or order by Friday, April 3, 2026, to have it shipped to you (shipping charges apply). Don’t wait — secure your regalia in time for the big day.

What should I expect at arrival and check-in?

All graduates should arrive at the Eastman Theatre (via the Oval Lobby Entrance on Gibbs Street) no later than 8:15 a.m. Please come with your regalia already on – leave your personal belongings with your family as there is nowhere to store these items. If you are a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, please wear your cords — these are worn over your hood.

Each graduate must check-in at the registration table in Lowry Hall and will be issued a name card. This card will have your name, including a phonetic pronunciation of your name (if you provided that when registering online). In addition, you may also be given an extra card if you are the first person alphabetically in your program, i.e. CNL, LHCS, etc. This extra card will be given to the reader so they are aware that a new group is beginning and they can properly announce that program. Also, students who have been notified they are receiving an award will be given an additional card with that information on it and the reader will announce that as well.

Where can I park?

In addition to on-street parking, parking is free at the following locations:

EAST END PARKING GARAGE
Location: 475 East Main Street (additional entrances on Swan Street, East Avenue, and Scio Street)

GIBBS ST. PARKING LOT
Location: 86 Gibbs Street

Is there a limit to how many guests I can bring?

For the School of Nursing graduation ceremony, there is no limit to the number of guests you can invite. We do, however, ask you to be mindful that there are typically more than 200 graduates at our ceremonies.

Will I receive my diploma at this event?

You will receive an empty diploma case on stage during the School of Nursing Graduation Ceremony. For students completing all degree requirements in May,  your official diploma will be sent in late June by our vendor to the address you indicated on your Application for Graduation.

How long is the graduation ceremony?

This ceremony should take about an hour and a half in length.

Are there photo opportunities during the graduation ceremony?

The School of Nursing will have a photographer during the event, capturing photos of each graduate as they cross the stage. Photos will be sent to graduates after the event. There is also a celebration toolkit with printable party materials and social media flair to help recognize the Class of 2026. Visit past School of Nursing graduation photo galleries.

Where can I access my graduation photos?

Graduates will receive a link from our photographer to pre-register. When you visit the page, it will ask you to upload a selfie. Take a selfie in nice, even light, with just your face visible. The software uses facial recognition to send you only your photos in the gallery. Additional event photos can be found in the School of Nursing graduation photo galleries.

Is there a reception after the ceremony?

There will be an informal reception immediately after the ceremony across the street from Eastman Theatre in the Miller Courtyard. School of Nursing staff will be there to guide you to this location. Families, guests, and students are welcome to stay after the ceremony, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and take pictures.
