Al Uy has been appointed as interim dean of the School of Arts & Sciences

Al Uy named interim dean of the School of Arts & Sciences
J. Albert (Al) Uy, Dean’s Professor of Biology and current chair of the Department of Biology, has been appointed interim dean of the School of Arts & Sciences. He succeeds Duje Tadin, who has served as interim dean since August 2024 and previously held the position in the summer of 2023. Uy will begin serving as interim on September 1 and will remain in that role until a permanent dean is appointed. An announcement about the permanent dean is expected in the coming weeks.
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, September 9, for Alison Katona, an insurance collection representative III in the Patient Financial Services Department, who died on July 21. Katona joined the University staff in 2001.
By probing proteins from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Rochester researchers led by Justin Fay, a professor of biology, show how organisms may adapt to rising global temperatures. Explore the research here.
Join Well-U and ROC Personal Training for the return of group hiking this fall. Over the course of eight weeks, you can join a group hike led by a certified personal trainer. Each week will be a different location around Rochester, and you can sign up for each week that you would like to attend.
