Join Red Watch Band training

Join the Health Promotion Office for Red Watch Band training today, September 5, at 11 a.m. in the Stackel Room, Wilson Commons. This is a bystander intervention program focused on promoting safety around alcohol and other drugs, increasing students’ awareness, knowledge, and skills, and empowering them to intervene effectively and supportively in critical situations. Register to reserve your spot.

Education Abroad Global Fair

Join the Center for Education Abroad at the annual Global Fair on Tuesday, September 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library. Discover available opportunities and learn from partners around the world. RSVP for the event.

Graduate teaching workshop on how teaching makes a better researcher

This Zoom Teaching Center workshop, open to all University graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, explores how developing teaching skills can sharpen your research thinking, improve communication, and deepen your understanding of your field. Whether you’re a seasoned TA or just starting, discover how your teaching experience can actively support and enrich your work as a scholar. Free professional haircuts during Meliora Weekend

Need a haircut? ClipDart, owned by Kyle Parker ’18, promotes mental wellness through culturally competent haircare and is offering free appointments to undergraduate students on Thursday, September 18, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the May Room, Wilson Commons. There are no walk-ins, and space is limited. Schedule your 30-minute appointment.

Retiree benefits webinar

The Office of Total Rewards hosts a retiree benefits webinar on Monday, September 8, at noon to discuss eligibility for retiree benefits, health and dental insurance, Medicare, enrollment periods, and other benefits offered to you as a University retiree.

Childcare subsidy applications now accepted

Apply now through September 22 for the 2026 childcare subsidy, which provides awards of up to $3,600 per year towards childcare expenses, based on total household gross income. If you received the subsidy in 2025, you must reapply. Find more information and FAQs here, or email familycare@rochester.edu. Join the Office of Total Rewards on Tuesday, September 9, at noon for an informational webinar where you can get answers to your questions.

Lifestyle benefits from Securian Financial

A suite of resources, such as travel assistance services from Redpoint and legacy planning resources from Securian Financial, is available to active employees covered under the University life insurance plan. There is no additional fee for enrollment, and programs within the plan are available to spouses, domestic partners, and insurance-eligible children.

Gandhi Institute open house and community dinner

Learn about the MK Gandhi Institute on Saturday, September 6, during an open house, from 1 to 6 p.m., featuring a community dinner at 3:30 p.m. Find food, games, music, and more at this family-friendly event. Find details and RSVP.


KUDOS

Greek organizations recognized nationally

Rochester’s chapter of the Delta Upsilon fraternity was awarded Most Improved Chapter, given to chapters that show significant progress in areas like chapter operations, member retention, educational programming, and overall impact.

The Gamma Pi chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Rochester was one of five chapters that earned the Gold Peterson award for the 2024–25 academic year. The chapter also received the Daniel William Cooper Award, honoring the undergraduate chapter with the most outstanding scholastic achievement program. It comes with a $5,000 scholarship.
