Apply for the Emergency Department Research Associate Program’s spring internship
Undergraduate students of all years and majors can apply for the Emergency Department Research Associate Program’s spring 2026 internship. Structured as a four-credit course through the Department of Public Health, the internship combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience in the emergency department to develop competencies in the mechanics of clinical research, including topics on research design, human subjects protection, and informed consent. National Healthcare Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week
National Healthcare Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week is September 14–20. University faculty and staff are encouraged to thank their area Environmental Services staff for performing their critical role each day, at all University, Medical Center, and UR Medicine facilities. Participating Environmental Services departments will celebrate staff contributions and efforts throughout the week.
On this day in 1925, the School of Nursing welcomed its very first class of diploma students, pictured above. Under the pioneering leadership of Helen Wood, the school debuted a rigorous and forward-thinking program as part of the University and Medical Center. Marking a significant shift from traditional hospital-based training, this innovative approach was among the first in the nation to embed nursing education within a university setting. Wood’s vision for integrating classroom learning, clinical practice, and research established a foundation that would propel the School of Nursing and the Medical Center to national prominence in nursing education and healthcare leadership.
Last week, Strong Memorial Hospital team members signed the final steel beam for the historic Strong Expansion Project, which will nearly triple the size of the emergency department. Find photos on the UR Medicine Facebook page and read more about the expansion project.
