TODAY'S UPDATES

myURHR, UR Financials, UR Procurement, and UR Student (Workday) upgrades this weekend

myURHR, UR Financials, UR Procurement (P2P), and UR Student perform system upgrades annually in March and September. Workday will be temporarily unavailable to complete upgrade activities from Friday, September 19, at 9 p.m. through Saturday, September 20, at 8 a.m. The University support teams will do the final configuration and system validation on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A full maintenance schedule is available here. After the upgrade, details on any changes and support information will be available within Workday announcements.


FOR STUDENTS

First-Year Residential Experience programming

Residential Life and Housing Services is continuing the First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE), a coordinated set of programs and opportunities for first-year students to help transition smoothly into their first year of college. Programming includes collaborations with the Learning Center, the Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Writing Center. Although these programs are primarily aimed at first-year students, any student in one of the supported courses is welcome to attend, regardless of their class year. Online program covers basics of sexual health

The Health Promotion Office offers an online program, Sex Ed 101, to learn the basics of sexual health over the course of 21 days. Learn more and sign up here.

Undergraduate writing groups

Writing groups for undergraduates in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences meet once a week for two hours across the semester, giving you time and structure to focus on your academic, professional, or creative writing. These sessions offer guidance, accountability, and a sense of community to help you make steady progress. Explore active groups and sign up. Email swoodrin@ur.rochester.edu with questions.

Financial Health Bites webinar on planning for college

The Office of Total Rewards hosts a webinar on September 24 from noon to 1 p.m. about various strategies for saving and paying for a college education and the latest tips and tricks for choosing a college. A representative from MetLife will conduct the seminar. Register to attend here.

Nobel laureate gives annual chemistry lecture

Moungi Bawendy, recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in chemistry, gives the Seymour Rothchild Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday, September 17, at noon in Lander Auditorium, Hutchison Hall. Learn more about the event.

ROC 360° Film Festival kicks off

Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the Strasenburgh Planetarium present the annual ROC 360° Film Festival. The unique event invites creators from all backgrounds to craft short, immersive works designed for dome and VR viewing. Explore the festival schedule, including workshops, deadlines, and screenings.

National Emergency Preparedness Month events at the Medical Center

Throughout September, the Nursing Emergency Preparedness Committee will host a series of hands-on training sessions to strengthen readiness across the Medical Center. Each week will focus on a different preparedness skill, allowing staff to practice practical, real-world skills in a supportive learning environment. There will also be outside vendors and Medical Center departments focused on emergency preparedness and response in the Strong Memorial Hospital main lobby on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Find the weekly schedule and sign up here.

LabArchives research edition bootcamp

In October, the LabArchives team will host a research edition boot camp for current LabArchives users or those cautiously sitting on the sidelines and reluctant to change old habits. Pick and choose the sessions that interest you, or attend all the sessions for a comprehensive look at LabArchives and how you can improve your research data management regimen. Plutzik Reading Series continues with author Sigrid Nunez

On Tuesday, November 4, celebrated author and National Book Award winner Sigrid Nunez will read from her recent works as part of the Plutzik Reading Series. The event is at 5 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library, and is free and open to the public. Learn more and save the date.
