Flags will be lowered for Harvest Wood Sr.

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, October 2, for Harvest Wood Sr., an environmental services worker at the Medical Center, who died on September 8. Wood joined the University staff in 2008.

Learn about resources available to help with your US job and internship search

Join the Greene Center on Friday, September 19, at 1 p.m. in Dewey Hall, Room 2-162, for the third session of a three-part series designed specifically for students who are looking to navigate the internship and job market in the United States. Required annual training for securing payment card data

As part of an ongoing commitment to protecting payment card data and maintaining compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), all faculty and staff involved in handling, processing, or managing payment card information are required to do the following.

1. Complete the annual PCI compliance training. Search for the “What is PCI” training in MyPath and complete the course before November 1.
2. Review the University’s PCI Policy, which outlines procedures for protecting cardholder data, defines roles and responsibilities, and details safeguards to follow to remain compliant with PCI DSS.

Tuition waivers deadline approaching

If you are an employee attending classes at the University for the fall 2025 semester, remember that you have 30 days from the start of the course to submit your tuition waiver application online via myURHR Workday. The end of that window is fast approaching. Email questions here.

The University now offers MMA Prosper Wise, a retirement planning tool that adds to the financial resources available through the University retirement program. This fall, a financial coach will visit University locations to offer one-on-one sessions, making it easy and convenient to get personalized support for your retirement goals. Attend Simon Business School Preview Night on Wednesday, September 24, from 5 to 7:15 p.m. in Schlegel Hall. Shadow a Simon class based on your interests. Submit abstracts for Wilmot’s scientific symposium

The 30th annual Wilmot Cancer Institute scientific symposium is on Thursday, November 6. All University students, trainees, and faculty are invited to submit abstracts on basic, translational, or clinical cancer-related research by Friday, September 26. Find more details.

Upcoming Calming U classes

The Mindful University project offers Calming U, a program for all University students, staff, and faculty to develop self-compassion, self-awareness, and emotional resilience. You can expect guided meditation practices, introspective exercises, meaningful discussions, and more. The next four-week sessions run on Wednesdays, October 8 through 29, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in Genesee Hall, Room 325, and on Fridays, October 17 through November 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. via Zoom. As the University celebrates its 175th year, we’re highlighting some of the notable people, events, and discoveries that have contributed to Rochester’s rich history. Today, we explore some exhibits on and around University campuses that recognize, educate, and delight. 

At this year’s Meliora Weekend, taking place today through Sunday, September 21, University Libraries is debuting two exhibits looking back at Rochester’s 175-year history. Scope out “If These Walls Could Talk,” located in the Friedlander Lobby of Rush Rhees Library, for an overview of impactful events that took place at the University since 1850. Whether it was listening to Malcolm X in Lower Strong Auditorium, meeting Eleanor Roosevelt in Cutler Union, or finding Phish in Douglass Commons, for 175 years, everyone has been in the University’s rooms when amazing things have happened.

You can also explore the evolution of academic and extracurricular life at Rochester through “Four Ever Better Years: the Student Experience Since 1850.” Located in Special Collections, Rush Rhees Library, this exhibit centers on how every student changes—and is changed by—the University. Looking beyond this weekend, the History of Medicine section within the Edward G. Miner Library is displaying items from its collection that showcase the Medical Center’s 100 years of growth and leadership as an academic research center. “A History of Research Education and Innovation” is open through the end of the year, and the section itself is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
