TODAY’S UPDATES

Two new positive cases of COVID-19

There are two new cases of COVID-19 to report: one Eastman Campus student, and one Medical Campus employee. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly covering the nose and mouth indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information. Face masks with air valves are not permitted, nor are face shields alone without a proper face mask underneath.

School of Nursing honored as an Apple Distinguished School

The School of Nursing has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for its innovations in teaching, learning, and creating a digital learning environment to better prepare the nursing workforce of tomorrow.

Digital history project will create virtual visits to an African slave fort

For his latest digital history project, “Black Past Lives Matter: Digital Kormantin,” Michael Jarvis, an associate professor of history, will create a website with meticulously detailed virtual tours of a 1632 English fort on the coast of Ghana that was among the earliest to send enslaved Africans to the American colonies. The project is funded with a National Endowment for the Humanities digital humanities grant.

Security Tip: Two-factor authentication (Duo)

The University uses the Duo two-factor authentication process to add a second layer of security to your online accounts and IT services, which helps prevent anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password. You must enroll in Duo to use many important systems including HRMS, VPN, UR Student, UR Financials, URMC Remote Access Systems, and URMC email. If you receive a Duo authentication prompt you did not initiate, decline it immediately by choosing “It seemed fraudulent” or “It was a mistake” in Duo. Choosing “fraudulent” will automatically open an incident with IT Security to investigate whether someone was trying to use your information. You can also report the incident to abuse@rochester.edu. In either case, change your password(s) immediately through myIdentity.

You must be on the University network in order to enroll yourself in Duo. If you need Duo but are not on the University network because you are working remotely, call University IT at (585) 275-2000 or URMC and Affiliates’ ISD Help Desk at (585) 275-3200 for assistance.
