‘My Student Support Program’ offers expanded mental health support
The University Counseling Center has announced a partnership with Lifeworks to expand coverage for mental health support for students. Students are able to access self-directed digital content in addition to connecting with clinical professionals who are experienced in helping students cope with the unique challenges they face. The My Student Support Program (My SSP) is a 24/7 free and confidential remote service that includes:
Real-time chat and phone support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no appointment needed
Short-term scheduled support available via phone or video
Connection with a professional counselor
Access to virtual fitness sessions, articles, podcasts, and more
Students can download the My SSP app from the App Store or Google Play; visit the My SSP website; or call (866) 743-7732. If calling from outside the US or Canada, call (001) (416) 380-6578. UCC will continue to offer both in-person and virtual initial assessments, individual, and group therapy, case management, and 24/7 crisis support.
International student entrepreneurship office hours
Are you an international student interested in entrepreneurship? Need help understanding the restrictions for international students trying to start a venture in the US? Book a virtual 30-minute, one-on-one session on Thursday, February 24, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. EST with attorneys from Harter, Secrest, and Emery for guidance.

Your doorway to extended reality
Studio X has an introductory workshop for anyone interested in exploring augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive technologies. It’s called “Intro to XR,” and it’s being held today, February 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Studio X. Staff will help demystify technology you’ve heard of and show you how it works. Help map faculty research collaborations
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute is conducting a brief survey about involvement in research and research collaborations, which all faculty members are encouraged to complete. The short online survey will help focus efforts to foster collaborative science and support emerging investigators and networks. Participants can request their results by contacting the Research Help Desk. Surveys need to be submitted by Tuesday, March 1.
The Ain Center for Entrepreneurship hosts its next Startup Bytes event on Friday, February 25, at noon EST via Zoom. Computer science major and e5 scholar Daniel Munoz Huerta ’22 will lead a panel discussion on the ethics behind artificial intelligence (AI), what happens to data, what are some of the risks, and how AI might affect the workforce of the future. Performance features film and music collaborations
The Beal Institute for Film Music and Contemporary Media presents “Visual Music 4.0: An Evening of World-Premiere Film and Music Collaborations,” on Saturday, February 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music. The evening features the direction of Mark Watters, an associate professor of contemporary media and film composition at the Eastman School of Music and a two-time music director for the Olympic Games. The performance will also be streamed live at esm.rochester.edu/live and will be free to view. The stream will start approximately 15 minutes before the event.
Webinar on master’s programs in the Department of Public Health Sciences
Join faculty from the Department of Public Health Sciences for a webinar about master’s programs on Tuesday, March 1, from 11:30 a.m. to noon EST. Programs are designed to actively prepare graduates for careers in public health, health services research and policy, epidemiology, and clinical research. The webinar will highlight key elements of each program and discuss program requirements and the application process. It will also cover the Accelerated Public Health Program for undergraduate students.
The “Mindful Practice in Medicine Core Workshop: Find Joy and Resilience, and Enhance Quality of Care” was developed by physicians to help medical practitioners and educators respond to the erosion of joy in their work. It provides an experiential and interactive learning environment. The workshop takes place May 4–7 at the Chapin Mill Retreat Center in Batavia; learn more and register online. A team of undergraduate and graduate coaches has received specialized training in the areas of active listening, helping students in distress, and suicide prevention. They are also educated on all the resources campus has to offer, from academic support to navigating an off-campus therapy appointment to finding a program to improve your sleep habits. To get started, visit the UR Connected website.
