The University community is asked to submit creative ideas that would represent Rochester’s global diversity in meaningful, valuable, and inspirational ways. The committee, cochaired by Nile Blunt, the McPherson Director for Academic Programs at the Memorial Art Gallery, and William FitzPatrick, the Gideon Webster Burbank Professor of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy, will accept submissions through mid-October and make recommendations to University President Sarah Mangelsdorf in December.

Flags will be lowered for Thomas Ferbel
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, May 10, for Thomas Ferbel, a professor of physics at Rochester from 1965 to 2008, who died on March 13.

Open house for new School of Nursing spaces
Friday, May 6, is the ribbon-cutting for the new three-story, 26,000-square-foot addition to Helen Wood Hall at the School of Nursing. It runs from noon to 2 p.m. and is by invitation only.
Following the ribbon-cutting, the School of Nursing is hosting an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. to show off the new spaces and demo some of the emerging simulation and extended reality technology. All are welcome to come and tour the site. Light refreshments will be available.
Free skin cancer screening
Together with Rochester Regional Health’s Division of Dermatology, the Rochester Dermatologic Society, and the American Academy of Dermatology, the Department of Dermatology is providing free skin cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7, on the first floor of the dermatology suite in College Town, 40 Celebration Drive. Screenings are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointment is needed.
