By clarifying the role of “real” and “virtual” charge carriers in laser-induced currents, researchers at Rochester and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg have taken a decisive step toward creating ultrafast computers. Ignacio Franco, an associate professor of chemistry and physics, performed the theoretical studies that led to this discovery in collaboration with doctoral student Antonio José Garzón-Ramírez ’21 (PhD).
A new program at Rochester pairs faculty and staff with international students whose families can’t attend graduation. “Some of the students were unexpectedly not able to have their family come, so it’s very disappointing,” says Molly Morrison, assistant dean of international student affairs in the College, who came up with the idea. “Others knew that that would never be an option for them. So having somebody there for them specifically is really heartwarming because we have receptions that they can go to together.”
