“Putting the burden on the person means putting the burden on the six-year-old in school to navigate when is best for them to wear a mask,” says Elizabeth Murray, an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine and of clinical pediatrics, in response to the CDC’s new guidelines eliminating recommendations for social distancing, quarantine, and test-to-stay.
Ignore unknown numbers to protect yourself from ‘vishing’ scams
Phone calls about your car’s extended warranty, winning a free cruise, or offering discounted utility services have a name: vishing. Similar to email phishing, malicious actors try to steal funds and get personal information by pretending to be a trusted company, government agency, or even a close family member. What’s your best defense? University IT advises avoiding answering calls you don’t recognize, even if it looks like a local number. If you answer the phone but become suspicious, don’t answer any questions, hang up immediately, and report the call to the Federal Trade Commission’s FTC Complaint Assistant.
