Information session on public safety policy evaluation
The University has contracted with campus security consultants Margolis Healy to embark on a comprehensive evaluation of its public safety policies, procedures, and organizational infrastructure. This initiative is a top priority for the University as it continues efforts to ensure inclusive, fair, and equitable security practices across the institution.
Representatives from Margolis Healy will hold an open session with students to explain the process and gather feedback. All students are invited to attend an in-person drop-in session today, September 23, from 1:45 to 3 p.m. in the Genrich-Rusling Room (Room 215), LeChase Hall.
Meditation class for first-year minority graduate students
Felicia Reed-Watt, associate director of social work and clinical case management at the University Counseling Center, teaches “Stay Woke and Meditate,” a class for first-year minority graduate students. The class is held on Tuesdays from October 4 through October 25, from 8 to 9:15 p.m. EDT via Zoom. Adopting the Koru curriculum, this class is designed to equip students with mindfulness skills and tips to foster resilience, but with the added sense of shared community with other first-year graduate students of color. Registration is required.
Complete harassment and discrimination prevention training by September 30
Faculty and staff have just one more week to complete the University’s required annual training on how to identify and react to workplace harassment and discrimination. “Culture of Respect: Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination” is available in MyPath and must be completed by September 30. It is meant to be a refresher course that will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Board games at the library
The Art and Music Library, located on the ground floor of Rush Rhees Library, is hosting the next edition of the River Campus Libraries’ game-playing series, “Towers and Tabletops.” Stop by anytime between 2 to 5 p.m. today, September 23, for art-themed board games with the UR Simulation Gaming Association. Three Faculty Artist Series concerts celebrate violinist Oleh Krysa
Oleh Krysa, a professor of violin at the Eastman School of Music, will perform three Faculty Artist Series concerts this fall, celebrating his 80th birthday, as well as 60 years as a professional violinist and 55 years of teaching. The first concert takes place Sunday, September 25, at 3 p.m. in Hatch Recital Hall, Eastman Theatre. Tickets for all of Krysa’s Faculty Artist Series concerts are $10 for the general public and free to current season subscribers. General admission tickets will be available for purchase at each concert.
Meliora Weekend 2022 is next week
Meliora Weekend returns next week, September 29–October 2. Featured speakers include Nobel laureate and former US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu ’70, ’98 (Honorary); Michele L. Norris, journalist and former cohost of National Public Radio’s All Things Considered; and Tony Kushner, Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning author, playwright, and screenwriter.
