Search underway for Medical Center CEO, SMD dean, and senior vice president for health sciences
A national search is underway for the position of CEO of the Medical Center, dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and senior vice president for health sciences. Current CEO Mark Taubman announced in September 2022 that he will step away from the leadership role following the completion of his current term, which concludes at the end of the calendar year. The search committee is chaired by Elizabeth Milavec, executive vice president for administration and finance, CFO, and treasurer. The search firm of SpencerStuart is assisting with the recruiting of highly qualified candidates to serve in this key leadership role. Find more information regarding the search committee.

PhD training program on augmented and virtual reality
University PhD students from multiple departments, including biomedical engineering, brain and cognitive sciences, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, neuroscience, or optics are invited to apply for cross-training in augmented and virtual reality.
The deadline for paid fellowship applications, offered to US citizens and permanent residents only, is July 25. The deadline for the general trainee program is August 15.
The Center for Education Abroad shares an opportunity from beGirl.World that will award a $2,000 scholarship to a Black female-identifying student who has been accepted to a study abroad program. Applications and all supporting documents are due Monday, May 22. Learn more and apply online.
Sponsored by the University Committee on Interdisciplinary Studies and the University’s Aging Institute, Aging Research Day will be held today, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Goergen Hall, Room 101. The event features a variety of talks on aging research from Medical Center and River Campus faculty. The day will culminate with a keynote delivered by Daniel Belsky, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center, on the quantification of biological aging. Learn more.
1973: A full day of public events on May 11 marked the formal opening of Hutchison Hall. The celebration included talks by noted scientists, building tours, and a special inaugural program. The building, which houses the chemistry, biology, and earth and environmental sciences departments, is named for Charles Force Hutchison who was a University trustee from 1932 to 1959 and a member of the board of managers of the Eastman School of Music.
