University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, September 5, for Nadja Justice, a secretary in the Department of Public Safety, who died on July 10. Justice joined the University staff in 1999.
“A lot of people, no matter what time they wake up, just need a minute,” says Leisha Cuddihy, an assistant professor of psychiatry and of medicine. “I don’t like talking to people within 30 minutes of waking up.” Simply acknowledging that reality can help bring a feeling of peace and acceptance to the morning, she says.
Dewey Hall host its 6th annual DeweyFest on Friday, September 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the cherry garden (lawn outside Dewey Hall in front of Gavett). Stop by to learn about all of the resources available to you in Dewey while having a blast with your peers. There will be lawn games, cotton candy, music, branded swag, and more. Participate in a scavenger hunt to grab cool giveaways and enter the grand prize raffle. DeweyFest is sponsored in partnership with the Greene Center, David T. Submit work to the Artful Unwind art show
The call for entries is currently open for the Artful Unwind, a juried art show featuring recent artwork from University employees. The show will be held from November 9 to December 17 at the Hartnett Gallery in Wilson Commons. Application to the show is open to anyone who works at the University including part-time and full-time staff, faculty, and volunteers. Each applicant may submit one piece of original 2-D or 3-D artwork for consideration. The deadline for entry is Wednesday, September 6.
LGBTQ+ Safe Space courses
New opportunities for all faculty and staff to register for LGBTQ+ Safe Space courses through the end of the year are now available. Registration for the first Zoom course, “Part 1: Gaining Knowledge,” can be found by searching for the “Safe Space Playlist” within MyPath. Following the completion of this course, you may register to complete “Part 2: Creating Safety to Become a University of Rochester LGBTQ+ Safe Space Champion.” Classes are free and many remain virtual.
