Winter weather is upon us in the Rochester area, and the University’s emergency preparedness teams are ready with the plans and tools that keep the University operational and community members informed during snowstorms or severe weather. Here are key points to remember when staying informed during winter in Rochester.
It’s important to know that only under extreme weather conditions do University officials consider reducing or delaying on-campus operations and canceling activities, provided that essential services can still be maintained. As a National Weather Service StormReady University, Rochester is well-equipped to deal with snow and ice and, in general, remains in operation and continues with regular activities, classes, and services.

Students are invited to a community-building conversation today, December 4, at 7 p.m. in the Gowen Room, Wilson Commons. This session, led by the OEI Restorative Practices Team in partnership with University Student Life, the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, Students’ Association, and the University Counseling Center (UCC), is an opportunity for students to gather and share their thoughts on the recent postering incident on campus. Registration is required. During the session, representatives from UCC will offer one-on-one counseling for those who need additional support. The goal is to foster a sense of unity and healing to help navigate these challenging times.
River Campus students who plan to remain on campus for all or part of winter break, December 19 through January 16, must register online by Monday, December 9. Information about dining, on-campus activities, hours of operation, and more are available on the winter break website.
