University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, December 17, for Leon Wheeless Jr., a professor emeritus in the Departments of Urology and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, who died on April 12. Wheeless Jr. joined the University faculty in 1971.
Ray Dorsey, the David M. Levy Professor of Neurology, said the trichloroethylene (TCE) ban will “end a century of it causing cancer.” Dorsey, who has also researched the strong links between TCE exposure and Parkinson’s disease, said the action will reduce cancers, stillbirths, congenital heart disease, and Parkinson’s disease. But he noted the ban will do little to address the contamination already in the environment.

Destress Fest tonight
Join the Health Promotion Office in the Welles-Brown Room for a Destress Fest today, December 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. Find winter-themed crafts, relaxing music, and hot chocolate available. There will also be stress-relieving handouts like stress balls and lavender sachets.

Undergraduate drop-in math tutoring
The Learning Center tutors offer drop-in tutoring sessions for select math courses during the reading period. The Math 140 series and Math 150 will be held on Wednesday, December 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Math 160 series and Math 200 will be held on Thursday, December 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. Both sessions take place in the Learning Center suite, Dewey Hall, Room 1-154.
