Live Well Obstacle Course

Join Well-U in our very first obstacle course challenge set for next Thursday, June 4th from 12:30-1:30pm at the URMC Fitness and Wellness Center.  Prizes will be awarded to top performers but all contestants will receive a Well-U T-Shirt.  If you have any questions call 276-5050. Space is limited.  To register: secure1.rochester.edu/hr/well-u/enroll

National Headache Awareness Week (7th-13th)

For over 39 years, the national headache foundation has supported headache research and provided educational resources, while working as a primary source for headache sufferers and healthcare professionals.   For more information visit:  www.headaches.org.

National Men’s Health Week (15th-21st)

Women are 100% more likely to have annual exams and preventive services (CDC, 2001).  Many diseases are preventable if detected early; a goal of men’s health week is to raise awareness of preventable diseases amongst men and boys.  Visit: www.menshealthmonth.org/week

National Trails Day 2009

In recognition of the American Hiking Society’s trail awareness day the University is sponsoring its first ever trails day event on Wednesday, June 24th.  Join us as we offer information on local Rochester trails and proper shoe ware along with FREE t-shirts, prizes, refreshments, and more.  To learn more e-mail: well-u-info@rochester.edu.

U of R Sponsoring Opening Day for Westside Farmer’s Market

The University of Rochester will be sponsoring the Westside Farmer’s Market this summer and opening day is set for Tuesday June 9th from 4-8pm.  Locally grown fruits, vegetables and plants will be available for purchase.  This is a great way to support the Rochester community while making healthy choices for you and your family.  Each Tuesday during the summer the Westside Farmer’s Market will run.  For more information click here: www.rochester.edu/working/hr/wellness/westside_farmers_market.pdf

Join this year’s eat well. live well. challenge April 26th-June 20th -Get Your Family Members involved too!

The “eat well.live well.” Challenge is an 8-week employee contest. It is for all employees and their family members who are ready to get more active and want to eat healthier. Participants are being asked to track their steps daily. The goal is to increase a person’s weekly physical activity by increasing the number of steps a person takes each day.
The “Strive for Five (Cups)” philosophy promotes healthy eating through behavior change by challenging people to increase the number of cups of fruits and vegetables they consume each day.
This year’s challenge is open to all employees and their families. Each participant receives free resources including tracking tools and a pedometer.
The four overall goals of eat well. live well are to:

  • Strive for 5 cups of fruits/vegetables each day
  • Get Moving
  • Watch Portion Sizes and Calories
  • Measure your Progress

Improve Your Health with Simple Steps!


Eligible Faculty/staff who complete the Health Assessment will receive $100!

Don’t delay! It is not too late to complete the on-line confidential Health Assessment and receive $100. Faculty, staff and spouses/domestic partners who are enrolled in the University Health Care Plans are eligible to participate.

The Health Assessment is a helpful tool in understanding and managing your health. It can provide you with a better understanding of your current physical, mental, and social well being.

By completing the confidential Health Assessment, you will have access to online Healthy Living Programs and resources recommended just for you. In addition, you can share the results of your health assessment with your physician and communicate about your personal health goals. Aggregate data also assists the University in developing and expanding health and wellness programs.

Note: The $100 is considered taxable and will be subject to normal wage withholding. Employees are eligible for the incentive only once this year. Spouses/domestic partners are not eligible to receive the $100.

The Health Assessment will be administered by Third Party Vendors. Personal health information that is collected during the Health Assessment is confidential and will not be shared with the University of Rochester.

About Us

Well·U is operated primarily through the Human Resources – Benefits Office, and is supported by a multidisciplinary Design Team that includes representatives from the Employee Assistance Program, University Health Service, Nursing Practice, Facilities, School of Nursing, the Center for Community Health, and the URMC Fitness and Wellness Center. Membership on this Design Team will continue to grow and diversify in the coming months and years.
