Department of Energy funding cuts and updates for the international community

In a message to the University community yesterday, President Sarah Mangelsdorf announced that Rochester is joining the Association of American Universities (AAU), higher education organizations, and several peer institutions in asking a federal court to prevent the Department of Energy (DOE) from imposing an across-the-board cap on negotiated funding rates, severely affecting the University’s research mission.

The University also learned in recent days that students, scholars, and staff from Afghanistan and Cameroon who were in the United States through a temporary protection program may now face deportation. This follows updates the University shared last week that federal authorities had begun to revoke the student visas and legal status of students and scholars from South Sudan. Staff from the International Services Office and Student Life programs are reaching out to those the University knows to be impacted to connect them with resources to evaluate the best enrollment and legal options.

Read the full message, which includes information for those who are affected by the DOE funding cuts, updated FAQs, and other legal updates.
