Gretchen Helmke named Guggenheim Fellow for political science

Gretchen Helmke, the Thomas H. Jackson Distinguished University Professor, was one of 198 scholars and artists across 53 fields to be recognized this year as a Guggenheim Fellow. Helmke’s research focuses on the rule of law and democratic erosion in the United States and Latin America; she is also the faculty director of the University’s Democracy Center and a cofounder of Bright Line Watch, a nonprofit organization that brings together leading political scientists to monitor democratic practices in the United States.

  • April 19: Easter vigil at 8 p.m. with reception to follow
  • April 20: Easter Sunday masses at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Flow Cytometry Resource symposium and seminar

Spend a fun evening out with friends while giving back. Friends of Strong’s first painting party of the year is on May 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Distillery Restaurant on Mt Hope. Create your own 16×20 painting guided by professional artist Nora Gelb. All supplies are provided, and 45 percent of all proceeds benefit Strong Memorial Hospital. Register for the 2025 Wilmot Warrior Weekend

Registration is now open for Wilmot Warrior Weekend, September 27 and 28, to raise money for the Wilmot Cancer Institute. This year, in addition to the Wilmot Breakaway Ride, walk, and run, Wilmot will host spin classes led by instructors from Compass Cycle + Flow. Register as an individual or join a team today. Everyone who registers to ride, run, walk, or spin through Friday, April 18, will receive $25 to jumpstart their fundraising.

Visit the Virtual Research Expo

Last week, the Office of Undergraduate Research wrapped up Celebrating Research Week with the annual Research Poster Expo. More than 125 students presented posters, and the event had more than 300 visitors. If you couldn’t make it, check out the Virtual Research Expo.
