Newborn screening expansion sparks research on early Duchenne intervention

A new study led by Bo Lee, an assistant professor of neurology and of pediatrics, aims to characterize the early natural history of Duchenne muscular dystrophy in infants and toddlers and provide important insight into disease progression in the early stages.

ISO virtual town halls on recent immigration, international travel topics

The International Services Office (ISO) is hosting four virtual town halls this week for University community members to hear about US immigration topics, international travel, and available resources. Immigration lawyers and campus partners will join ISO to share insights and answer questions. To join a town hall, you must register via the links below for each one using your official University email. You may submit anonymous questions in advance and ask questions anonymously during the town hall.

  • Hiring departments and faculty sponsors, Wednesday, April 23, 10 a.m.: Topics include hiring of noncitizens, international travel considerations for faculty, and visa requirements.
  • Students, Wednesday, April 23, noon: Topics include international travel guidance, visa/status requirements, keeping up with address changes (via SEVIS), government reviews of social media for F-1/J-1 students, and ICE encounters.
  • Faculty, staff, scholars, and researchers (domestic traveling J, H), Thursday, April 24, noon: Topics include international travel guidance, including preparing for border checks and electronic device searches, visa/status requirements, ICE encounters, and what to do if you are stranded outside the US.
  • Graduate students, Friday, April 25, 3 p.m.: Topics include international travel guidance, visa/status requirements, keeping up with address changes (via SEVIS), government reviews of social media for F-1/J-1 students, and ICE encounters.

Kessler family invests in the future of Hillel at Rochester

Rochester Trustee Larry Kessler, his wife, Karen, and his brother, Dennis, have made a generous $1 million commitment to establish the Kessler Family Fund, an endowed gift that will benefit Hillel at Rochester. Their generosity will provide long-term support for Jewish life on campus, strengthening Hillel’s ability to create meaningful experiences and foster a vibrant, inclusive community.


IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Meghan Nowicki

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, April 29, for Meghan Nowicki, a medical technologist specialist, CoreLab, in the Strong Memorial Hospital Microbiology Department, who died on March 24. Nowicki joined the University staff in 2015.

Apply to the Health Care Leadership Development Program

Designed for Medical Center physicians, the Health Care Leadership Development Program offers a unique opportunity to sharpen your business acumen and strengthen your healthcare management skills, without the commitment of a full graduate degree program. The program’s targeted curriculum is taught by Simon Business School faculty. Medical Center faculty and staff with an advanced degree are encouraged to apply for the spring cohort. Admission priority is given to Medical Center leaders who plan to pursue all four modules. The course registration deadline is May 2; cohort size is limited.

Submit proposals to the Institute for Human Health and the Environment

The University’s Institute for Human Health and the Environment is looking for innovative ideas that will increase the understanding of how environmental factors shape human health.
