The House Republicans’ reconciliation bill would use the federal tax code to offer vouchers that students could use to attend private secular or religious schools, even in states where voters have opposed such efforts. David Figlio, the Gordon Fyfe Professor of Economics and a professor of education at the Warner School of Education and Human Development, sums up voucher effectiveness this way: “The best studies find zero to negative impacts on test scores among participants.”

The impact of movement on diabetes
Join lifestyle health coach Imalai Rosado on Friday, May 30, at noon to learn how incorporating movement into your day can manage blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, and delay symptoms of diabetes. Register to attend by noon on Thursday, May 29.
Seasonal discounts for employees
Eligible employees can access regular and seasonal discounts, such as travel deals, yard work services, and more, through LifeMart by Care.com, included in their free Care.com premium membership. This benefit is part of the current employee offerings along with YOUR Benefits Extras.
Summer yoga classes run through August 25 every Monday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Leibner-Cooper Room, Goergen Athletic Center. Classes are open to all full-time students and R-club members (part-time students, faculty, and staff) and are hosted by Mindful University Project and Yoga Vibe’s experienced yoga teachers. Check out schedules and register for classes, or just drop-in. All levels are welcome.
University IT shares that you can leverage Credit Bureau tools such as Fraud Alert and Credit Freeze to prevent unauthorized credit account access and identity theft. Fraud Alert ensures businesses check with you before opening new accounts in your name. Credit Freeze prevents businesses from accessing your credit information altogether. Learn more about these tools and how to use them on the Federal Trade Commission’s website.
Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s University Research Awards. The annual awards provide seed money on a competitive basis for innovative research projects that, when sufficiently developed, are likely to attract external support.
