Fall welcome message, standards of student conduct from Interim Dean of Students Anne-Marie Algier

“The beginning of the academic year is a time for a fresh start. I hope you can pursue your passions inside and outside the classroom and take advantage of the many resources the University has to offer,” writes Anne-Marie Algier, interim dean of students, in a fall semester welcome message to students. The message also highlights the University’s Meliora Vision and Values, and the student code of conduct, which students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with. Read the full message here. Students can also contact the Center for Student Conflict Management with questions.

Upcoming deadlines from the College Center for Advising Services

The College Center for Advising Services shares the following upcoming deadlines:

  • Monday, September 9: Last day to add a course without instructor permission
  • Tuesday, September 10—Monday, September 23: Instructor permission is required to add a course, including independent study and independent research

Undergraduate students in the College can add and drop courses from their fall 2024 schedule through Monday, September 9, by logging into the UR Student system. Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences students need the approval of their undergraduate coordinator for all schedule changes. Students in the Class of 2027 and 2028 from the School of Arts & Sciences should communicate with their college advisor about any proposed changes to their schedule. All undergraduate students must remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits to retain their full-time status.

Course policy updates

The College Dean’s Office shares with undergraduates in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences updates to two policies now in effect this fall 2024 semester: Incomplete Grades (now called Incomplete Notations) and Audit Registrations.

Both policies can be found on the Registrar’s website. Links to the policies will also be present in the Advising Handbook. Both policies are owned and maintained by the College Dean’s Office.

Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to discuss any questions about the updates to these policies. You may also reach out to college.academicaffairs@rochester.edu.

AlertUR test set for September 5

The fall semester test of AlertUR will be on Thursday, September 5, at 6 p.m. AlertUR is the emergency notification system for the University, including the Medical Center. In the event of an emergency, alerts are sent by voice, text, and email message. The purpose of the twice-a-year test is to activate the AlertUR system and check that you can be reached immediately. Students are automatically enrolled via their Rochester e-mail but are strongly encouraged to add a cell phone number to receive emergency calls and texts. Before the test, be sure to review your contact information; sign in with your NetID and password to verify the fastest method for reaching you. The September 5 test will not disrupt scheduled activities. Find more information on AlertUR.

Reminder: No classes tomorrow

There are no classes on Monday, September 2, in observance of the federal Labor Day holiday.
