Rochester Monday starts this semester

The spring 2025 semester is the first term to feature Rochester Monday, which occurs on the first Friday of the spring semester. That means on Friday, January 24, Rochester faculty will teach their Monday classes, so students should attend their regularly scheduled Monday classes that day.

Please note that the School of Medicine and Dentistry (MD only), the School of Nursing, and the Warner School of Education and Human Development will not participate in Rochester Monday, so students attending those schools should attend their regular Friday classes.

For your convenience, the start-of-semester calendar is as follows:

Tuesday, January 21: Tuesday classes (first day of classes)

Wednesday, January 22: Wednesday classes

Thursday, January 23: Thursday classes

Friday, January 24: Monday classes

Monday, January 27: Monday classes

Tuesday, January 28: Tuesday classes

Wednesday, January 29: Wednesday classes

Thursday, January 30: Thursday classes

Friday, January 31: Friday classes

The introduction of Rochester Monday is part of an update to the academic calendar that better aligns holidays and other events across University schools throughout the year.

The University Academic Calendar is available online for more information. There will not be a make-up day for the Friday classes that fall on Rochester Monday. There is simply one less Friday in the term than the other days of the week.

Shuttle service updates

Spring shuttle schedules are now available online to assist with your semester planning. The schedules will take effect on Tuesday, January 21. Stay informed about weather- or traffic-related delays with real-time service updates by checking the Passio Go app for push notifications or visiting the shuttle alerts web page before traveling. For questions, contact the Department of Transportation and Logistics at (585) 275-4524 or parking@rochester.edu.

A reminder about UHS primary care changes

This is a reminder that University Health Service (UHS) is making changes to improve access to primary care for all students and has hired a new provider who will be starting in January. UHS is also exploring options to bring in additional providers.

A $25 fee will be charged through UR Student for missed appointments (no-shows) starting in January to facilitate maintaining as many available appointments as possible. This policy aligns with what is common in community practices. More than 425 appointments were missed between August and November despite the reminder system. On average, that’s equivalent to 30 missed appointments per week—a significant loss of opportunities for other students to receive care. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a no-show fee. All fees collected will directly support UHS student programs.
