If you are a University employee, administrator, or faculty member with a question about University-related legal matters, the Office of Counsel is your first stop. The Office of Counsel does not provide advice to individuals about personal legal matters unrelated to the University.

When to contact Office Counsel
You should contact the Office of Counsel when you receive or anticipate receipt of a subpoena or other legal papers relating to the University, need support with contracts or legal compliance questions not addressed by other offices, are seeking guidance on University policies, or have concerns involving legal risk. If you’re unsure whether your situation requires legal review, reaching out is always appropriate — the team will help ensure your question reaches the right attorney or staff member. University policy provides that any of engagement of external legal counsel on behalf of the University be coordinated or approved in advance by the Office of Counsel.
