Our faculty is the heart of our school.

Teaching is a top priority, and we have a long history of outstanding faculty, including doctors George Engel, John Romano,
Jules Cohen, Robert Joynt, and Seymour Schwartz. Our educators mentor, inspire, support, and provide many new opportunities
for our students to be involved in basic and patient-centered research.

Donald Bordley (pictured left), M.D. ’80M (Res), ’81M (Flw), the inaugural William L. Morgan, Jr. Professor in Medicine,
exemplifies our stellar faculty. He has shaped the careers of hundreds of physicians, mentoring residents for 30 years and
directing the Internal Medicine Residency Program for more than 15 years. Dr. Bordley has used his inherent teaching talent
to revolutionize resident education. He is a passionate advocate of an intimate style of education that places the teacher, student,
and a patient together at the bedside.

You can help us retain and attract nationally recognized faculty members like Dr. Bordley and honor these acclaimed leaders
with endowed professorships. Professorships—one of the highest honors bestowed by the academic community—are awarded
to individuals who are outstanding educators or researchers. Donors who establish endowed professorships create a legacy that
links them to quality medical education, research, and patient care that lasts in perpetuity.

Most of our faculty are also practicing physicians or researchers. They face the challenges of declining clinical reimbursements
or National Institutes of Health research funding, which threatens their ability to take time away from their busy clinical practices
or research to teach. With your generosity, endowed teaching fellowships will provide the support these master teachers need
for five years at a time to continue to educate the next generation of physicians and scientists and deliver “Medicine of the
          Highest Order.”

          Ralph Józefowicz, M.D. ’82M (Res), ’86M (Flw),
is extraordinary in his ability to inspire and instill
a love of learning. These talents have earned
him nearly every teaching award at the School
of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as the 2010
A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in
Neurologic Education from the American Academy
          of Neurology.

Dr. Józefowicz is widely credited with enhancing
the education of neurologists nationwide, and his
teaching method, referred to as the “Józefowicz Plan,”
has been emulated around the globe. The plan
          includes three components: organization, planned
          redundancy, and enthusiasm for teaching.
