Information Technology Services and other technical support groups throughout the University of Rochester and the Medical Center are asking users of Windows XP operating system not to install a new Service Pack 2 from Microsoft.
Some security measures included in the upgrade from Microsoft may cause problems with existing programs and safeguards now in place at the University. Microsoft is expected to offer this material beginning the week of Aug. 16.
Information Technology Services and the Information Systems Division of the University of Rochester Medical Center have started testing the service pack to determine the most compatible means of installation and configuration. It is “highly recommended” by those units that Service Pack 2 for Windows XP users not be installed until the testing is complete in the next few weeks.
