A jazz concert featuring the Aaron Goldberg Trio will take place at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the May Room of Wilson Commons on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
An accomplished pianist and composer, Goldberg is currently serving as the musical director of “All Souls at Sundown,” a jazz and poetry performance series at Lincoln Center in New York City. As a member of the OAM Trio, Goldberg is heard on the albums Flow (2002), Trilingual (1999), and Live in Sevilla (2003), and has been featured as a sideman on the albums of other notable jazz musicians. Solo albums include Unfolding (2001) and Turning Point (1999). His latest project, Worlds, is scheduled for release later this year.
In addition to the concert, Goldberg will teach a master class with trio members Reuben Rogers and Ali Jackson, Jr., at the Eastman School of Music. A variety of jazz genres will be presented and discussed with students and faculty. The master class is hosted by the jazz studies and contemporary media department.
The Aaron Goldberg trio will also hold a discussion titled “The Life of a Jazz Musician” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in 107 Schlegel Hall on the River Campus. Each musician will share his stories about the world of jazz and reaching success. The discussion is sponsored by the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and the Undergraduate Musicians’ Council and is free and open to the public.
