Jim Karol, a professional magician who utilizes clever wit and audience participation to showcase mind and memory skills, will be performing "Mind Over Madness" at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus.

The holder of three Guinness world records, including one for throwing a playing card more than 200 feet, Karol has made numerous television appearances on programs such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Good Morning America as well as on CNN. A former police officer and steel mill worker, Karol began his magic career at age 29 because of his desire to perform. He has authored the book 50 Ways to Hustle Your Friends as well as two additional books on improving memory skills.

For this show, Karol is appearing with Chris Chelko, a fellow professional magician who toured with Karol in his previous show, "Mind, Magic, & Madness."

Tickets to Karol's show are $6 for the general public, $3 for University of Rochester students, faculty and staff; they are available in advance at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus and at the door.
