The University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra will give a Family Weekend performance at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester River Campus.

Now in its 44th season, the Symphony Orchestra features a strong blend of standard orchestral works as well as contemporary compositions. Students of all disciplines of study audition for the orchestra, and many of the students are also featured as soloists.

Saturday's performance will feature works by Strauss, Beethoven, and Maxwell Davies, which will feature a unique bagpipe solo.

David Harman, professor of music and director of orchestral activities at the University, will conduct the Symphony Orchestra. In addition to bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University at Sacramento, Harman earned a doctor of musical arts from the Eastman School of Music.

The performance is free and open to the public. Please contact the College Music Program at (585) 275-2828 at least five days in advance to request any special accommodations.
