EVENT: Mela 2001, South Asian Cultural Celebration

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: Saturday, April 14, on the University of Rochester River Campus: 4 p.m., cultural show in Strong Auditorium; 6:30 p.m., dinner in Douglass Dining Center.

ADMISSION: $7 for dinner and must be purchased in advance at India Market, India Palace, or the Common Market in Wilson Commons. Tickets for the show only are $2 for students and $3 for the general public and may be purchased at the door. Note: Parking is free and available in University lots during weekends.

The 15th annual Mela celebration of South Asian culture will be held on Saturday, April 14, on the University of Rochester River Campus. The event is sponsored by the Association for the Development of Interest in the Indian Sub-Continent (ADITI).

The event begins at 4 p.m. with a cultural show in Strong Auditorium featuring dances such as the bhangra and dandia, skits, and musical and vocal performances that reflect the many different cultures of South Asia. The dinner, catered by India Palace, will start at 6:30 p.m. in Douglass Dining Hall.

Tickets for the dinner are $7 and must be purchased in advance at India Market, India Palace, or the Common Market in Wilson Commons. Tickets for the cultural show only are $2 for students and $3 for the general public and may be purchased at the door.
