Statement regarding the 2015 Regional Economic Development Council and Upstate Revitalization Initiative Awards

Today in Albany, state and legislative leaders announced $500 million in economic development support for the Finger Lakes and selected the region as one of the three awardees of the Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) competition.

Early Douglass daguerreotype on display

One of the earliest images of the 19th-century abolitionist is on loan at the River Campus Libraries through February. While here, the 1848 portrait will feature in a larger exhibition about the University’s work on researching and preserving daguerreotypes.

Rochester team among those awarded $3 million Breakthrough Prize for work with neutrinos

A team led by professors Steven Manly and Kevin McFarland was honored “for the fundamental discovery of neutrino oscillations, revealing a new frontier beyond, and possibly far beyond, the standard model of particle physics.”

David R. Williams, widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on human vision and pioneer in the use of adaptive optics technologies for vision applications, serves as the William G. Author Jacinda Townsend to receive 2015 Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for Fiction

The award is being given for Townsend’s debut novel Saint Monkey, which was named by The Root as one of the 15 best works published by black authors in 2014.
