Researcher honored as Thomson Reuters Citation Laureate

Ching Tang, a professor of chemical engineering at the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is being recognized as one of the most influential researchers in the field of chemistry. Thomson Reuters has named Tang one of this year’s 26 Citation Laureates for his role in inventing the organic light-emitting diode (OLED).

Rochester students recognized for civic engagement

A closing ceremony for five Rochester Youth Year Fellows and 17 Rochester Urban Fellows is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, in City Hall. The Fellows—22 undergraduates and recent college graduates from Rochester-area colleges—have spent from 10 weeks up to a year engaging in service projects and learning about urban issues in and around Rochester.

Six Rochester students headed abroad through research, language grants

This summer, six University of Rochester students will travel abroad through two nationally competitive scholarships, the Critical Language Scholarship and the DAAD-RISE Scholarship program. This year’s scholarship recipients will study at universities in Russia and Germany.

Rochester student selected as Whitaker International Fellow

Amanda Chen ’14 has been selected to participate in the 2014-15 Whitaker International Fellows program. The program sends young biomedical engineers anywhere outside the United States or Canada to pursue academic or scientific research, Chen will use her fellowship to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in the UK.

Adam Pacheck named Academic All-American

Adam Pacheck has been elected to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team for Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field in Division III. To qualify for the team, athletes must be of sophomore standing or higher and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

Sixteen reap All-America honors in ’13-14

In terms of individual success, Rochester enjoyed one of its finest seasons this year. A total of 16 student-athletes earned All-America honors for their achievements, representing soccer, squash, swimming, diving, golf, rowing, and softball.
