The University has a proud past of commencement speakers and honorees but the 91st commencement ceremony on June 16, 1941, was particularly noteworthy.
Grads can ‘cap’ their day in style at decorating event
Graduating seniors are invited to bring their mortarboards and their imagination, and choose from paint, stickers, letters and more at this year’s cap decoration event. Bubble guns will be given to the first 200 participants.

University announces 2015 commencement honorary degrees and award recipients
The University of Rochester will recognize the outstanding contributions of distinguished leaders and scholars by bestowing honorary degrees, the Eastman Medal, Hutchison Medals for exemplary service, and awards for scholarship and teaching. Deborah Bial, founder and president of the Posse Foundation, will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree and deliver the College’s commencement address on May 17.

“I don’t know much about graduations except what I’ve seen in the movies,” joked director Mike Nichols after received an honorary doctor of letters degree from the University in 1972. Chris Matthews to give Commencement address
Chris Matthews, highly respected political news commentator, MSNBC host, and author will deliver the 164th College commencement address on Sunday, May 18.
